Sacramento Spirits
The Sacramento Spirits played their first season in the American Soccer League (ASL) in the summer of 1976. Although they placed last in their first season, the team won the West Division in 1977. However, midway through their 1978 season, the Sacramento Spirits were short on money and were bought out and renamed to Sacramento Gold. The Gold would go on to play in two ASL title games, winning one in 1979, before folding in 1980.
