Pennsylvania Stoners
The Pennsylvania Stoners were a really groovy team from Pennsylvania, man. That’s just like who they were, you know. The team started play in the American Soccer League (ASL) in 1979 but who are we to judge them, dude. Sometimes you think about soccer and it’s like, yeah, you can be a late-1970s soccer team from Pennsylvania and call yourself the Stoners. You can do that. If you try really hard, I mean like really hard, you can even win an ASL title. The Stoners did that man, they did it. In 1980 they drew huge crowds in Allentown and won the ASL crown. Unfortunately they had a bad trip after that though. They ran into money troubles, moved to Bethlehem and folded in 1984. But it was definitely groovy for a while.
