Boston Minutemen
As the name implies, the Boston Minutemen was a soccer team based out of Boston and in the North American Soccer League (NASL) from 1974 - 1976. After winning the Northern Division in 1974, the team went onto the NASL championship but sadly lost to the Los Angeles Aztecs in the playoff semi-finals.
After winning the division for the second year in a row, the Boston Minutemen won the Northern Division again in 1975 but lost in the playoff quarter final to the defending champion Miami Toros. The Minutemen may be most known for a wild game in the summer of 1975, when Pele and the Cosmos came to town. An over-capacity crowd resulted in supporters lining the field, and they mobbed Pele at one point in the game causing him to leave with apparently minor injuries.
After a few more years as the Minutemen, the team was rebranded the New England Tea Men.
