Denver Avalanche

The Denver Avalanche played for two short seasons during 1980-1982 at McNichols Arena. Although they drew good crowds when playing in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), the Denver Avalanche had to compete with their co-tenants the NBA’s Denver Nuggets and NHL’s Colorado Rockies for fans and sponsors, which made it difficult to keep up.

After the team went bankrupt in 1982, investors from Washington purchased the team from bankruptcy court in 1983. After being readmitted to the MISL for the 1983-84 season, the Avalanche became the Tacoma Stars and played on for nine seasons until 1992.
