Baltimore Spirit
In 1992, the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) introduced the Baltimore Spirit as the new Baltimore expansion franchise, picking up where the Baltimore Blast of the newly defunct MISL left off. The Baltimore Spirits even picked up ex-Blast players such as Joe Koziol, Mike Stankovic, Rusty Troy, Cris Vaccaro and Tim Wittman.
The team went on to win two consecutive division titles in 1993 and 1994 but lost to the Harrisburg Heat both years during the playoffs. They would fall to the Heat in the playoffs three years in a row, before finally beating them the fourth time around in 1996. The team floundered in 1997 both on the field and at the box office, and would be sold at the end of the season.
This would make a unique gift for the soccer fan in your life or a neat find for yourself of a vintage soccer team from Maryland.
