Pittsburgh Spirit
The Pittsburgh Spirit were one of six founding franchises in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), playing at the Civic Arena. The team had a poor start for their first season in 1978-79 and went 6-18. The second wasn't much better and then the team went on hiatus, skipping the 1980-81 indoor season. Surprisingly, the team came back in 1981-82 and would qualify for the playoffs, greatly improving on their past performances. In 1983-84, they had their best season when they won 38 games and drew over 8,000 fans per game. The team wouldn't hit those highs again and had trouble financially, and would fold in 1986.
